Conflicting age information

In Ride the Night Wind, Jose claims he's around 5 when Rider shows up. In Make it Last Forever, Rider says the boy looks no older than 5 or 6. The official website lists Jose's official age as 1968, which would make him 11 at the time of Make it Last Forever's setting of 1979.
